Post CS-130 alternator help

I've recently swapped a 98 350 and accessories out of a Z71 into my '68. I'm currently trying to determine what the voltage INTO the alternator should be to excite it. I know if I put in 12v it charges, but on my '97 Lumina, I only measure 10 volts into the alternator.

When I put in the 12 volts into the truck alternator, I get 14 volts. Is this too much voltage?
