I second what Rage said. If you can't afford to paint yet- a little elbow grease will work wonders on an old paint job. Years ago, I had an old beater red Chevy van. The paint was like powder.
I totally went the cheap route. I bought a $15 orbital polisher from harbor Freight, spent a couple of bucks on polishing compound and a few more bucks on cheap wax with color pigment in it. Then i did some serious sweating.
It wasn't a show-car, but wasn;t bad from 20 feet. If nothing else- the paint didn't wipe off on my clothes anymore.
