Well, I don't think I would cut them anymore. The part of the a-arm behind the bag in the picture slopes up, so I'm sure the arm is real close to the bag as is.

I'm at this same exact point in my build. This is what I'm doing, alot of work, but should be nice when done: I am going to cut a 9 inch hole in the arm, and insert a round piece of pipe. Then I'm going to weld a plate on the bottom of the arm. All 1/4 material. Should be stronger than stock and allow the bag to sit about 1.5-2 inches lower in the arm. Gonna start that today. I went to a welders supply store and bought an old tank for 20 bucks to get the 9" round steel.
