Josh, There are several ways to go. I have seen people use the stock straight axle and add a power steering box. I am not sure how good that works or what all is involved. Probably the easiest thing is to get one of the aftermarket front end kits. I did a Heidts one on my dad's truck. There are other ways also like the camaro/nova weld in, the S-10 like you are talking about and a guy on here did a Dakota front end that I think is like the Heidts that I did. A small block is a pretty straight forward swap. We got a set of weld in mounts and located the motor where I wanted it and got after it...lol. I have been following your 72 build and I don't think you will have any trouble helping your friend with this.
