Might want to check the pickup coil in the distibutor also, the two wires were prone two breaking because of the movement of the coil by the vacuum advance.

When the engine is idling the coil is stationary but as it accelerates the advance would move the coil and the wires would break contact momentarily causing the engine to stumble.
