700R4 is similar in length to a TH350 with a 9" tail shaft. 200R4 is similar to a TH350 with a 6" tail shaft.....the latter being more common.

Both can be built to handle stout motors and the 200 1st to 2nd gears are closer than the 700. You will drop more RPM's when a 700 shifts from 1st to 2nd than a 200 will.

200's where in alot of midsize cars such as Monte Carlos, Regals, Grand Nationals....small V8 cars. Be carefull cuz some only have the BOP (Buick,Olds,Pontiac) bolt pattern.

your gonna find that 700's and guys that do performance builds on 700's are more plentiful just because they are more common.
