I had my truck painted in 1994 for $3000 plus materials. Total for the job was about $4500 (Red paint is expensive!). At the time the painter was doing jobs on the side. He showed me pictures of other cars, and trucks he had painted. He also took me to go look at a truck he had recently finished.

He's now painting full time, and the same job would probably cost me about $7-8K. Although I think now I would do the majority of the disassembly/prep work, and mainly leave him with only minor prep work and spray...

I'll probably be doing just that within the next year or so. It's been about 13 years since he painted my truck, and there are some areas where the clear coat is lifting. I also need to replace rocker panels.....
