A 3.07 gear would cost more than a 700R4 conversion, even if the tranny was done right. A 4.10 gear is the best you'll find for that, and is what it should have unless opted otherwise when new.
I can't give any advice on what to do... I'd give my left lug nuts to own one that nice.
