['68 C-20]

Hello all,
I have owned 3 67-71 Chevy/GMC Pickups over the last 30 years or so. None of them were particularly noteworthy but I liked them. I really like inline 6’s. As I get closer to my “Golden” years I have been looking for restoration possibilities. (Not me, trucks, I’m well beyond restoration) I stumbled across this forum the other day and decided to enlist.

My search for my first project in many years ended when I found a ‘68 C20, 292 CI 4 Speed Muncie, with 53K original documented miles. I'm the third owner, have the name of the first owner. Great shape, good wood in bed. No body/frame rot, very little rust. No interior tears. Original 17 inch wheels/hubcaps. Close your eyes, you get the picture. It was a good day!

First owner well into his 'Golden' years had it up until a year ago and literally, sanded out the rust bubbles and painted them with a spray can every year. Then he would rub out the spray paint with rubbing compound and wax it. In the sun it sort of looks like a weird (508) blue camouflage pattern. Any case, I pulled the wheels checked the brakes, replaced the front Brake lines from the Master to the Wheel Cylinders and put it on the road. One of the rear trailing arms was struck, damaged and is rusted through at the u-bolts.

Any thoughts on where I could pick up a new (or used) one? They seem to be hard to find.

And, if you have driven a Muncie you know that it has a huge variable in gears, 1st gear is granny super low giving only 3 usable gears if you will never work it. 4th gear really is not high enough for highway unloaded driving. I am contemplating a UNDER/OVERDRIVE™ kit from Gear Vendors Inc. Anyone have any experience with them or their kits?
