I know the ball and socket deals you have to cut the headers and the lead pipe and put thoose on. Looks like you only have to do the pipes on that setup and not the headers.

The ball and flange of the header buddy fits into (against) the header outlet and attaches to the header flange. No welding at the header side. I may end up having the ball adaptor welded though.
