why the plywood on the wall? is that to help match the thickness of the lath and plaster?

how do you like running screws into the ancient studs? my Snap-On cordless 1/2" has troubles.

on the good side my 9 year old son likes to help with the demo work. I just put him in the room with some tools and close the door. "have at 'er Son"
