Yes, if you installed a crossmember from a 73-87 you would need to get drop spindles for whatever year truck the crossmember came from. It's a pretty much a bolt in deal, with the exception of a couple holes that need to be drilled. If you are going to use a booster from a later truck, you'll have to modify the brackets to fit the firewall, as well as the length of the rod that connects to the pedal.
