removing the tank alone ain't gonna do jack.
The seat hits the wall above the tank. Remember the first time you tossed your arm over the top of the seat and got your fingers pinched?
When i installed my e-bay seats, I noticed the seat backs were thinner. This made it possible to slide them back a bit more. Just an inch makes a huge difference. Tilting the seat back helps too amazingly enough.
