gmonkey the lead weights may be your problem rokcrin has the right idea. i have always used a small rosebud tip heated metal applied tinning butter heated that till it is tacky but not melted it is the bond between lead and metal.then heated lead stick 15/85 tin/lead not melted and then once that is applied i can heat and shape. have you ever made cookies? well that is the consistency you want the lead just like the butter stick soft but not completely melted.
