I've got the same situation. Mine seems to stop ok, but I've only driven it about a block (off road) - you really have to mash on the pedal though. There's usually master cylinders and brake boosters and proportioning valves off of S10's on ebay. I'm thinking about getting one of those and seeing if it will work. Here's an example. Would this work?
