I personally wouldn't give a rat's behind what others think. If you want to change it to make it more pleasing to your eye, then go for it. You just need to get the door and section of the quarter panel from a later Blazer/Jimmy and get the fill neck and hose too.

The other thing you could do is run a cap that's smoothed out like one of the others (tv78 I think) has done. Another option is a boat style filler that mounts flush to the body. The cap threads in flush to the filler and tightens with a special key. I've thought about using one of those since there wouldn't be anything hanging out for trees to grab on tight trails.
