New lifter on a used cam can be a bad combo - the more agressive finish on the new cam can flatten a cam lobe. Not an absolute no - but it's a risk.

Be SURE it's a bad lifter and not a flat lobe or bent pushrod.

I'm not RECOMMENDING this, but the times I have had to replace a lifter, I've chucked it up in a lathe and taken a little emery cloth soaked in solvent to the foot LIGHTLY just to take it down a notch.
