Stokes, about the wood being original: Being in Idaho, a wood bed could hold up pretty well for a long time. Just last weekend I ripped out an original wood bed from a '72 longstep; it was a Texas truck (by the gulf) and the rest of the truck was pretty rotten, but there were still some pretty healthy boards in the bed. Some wood beds seem to hold up pretty well. Has it ever had a camper top on it?

But like you said, it doesn't matter. Just shooting the bull about wood beds. Good luck with the oak replacement. And yes, I wanna see pics!
