10 gauge wire is overkill. It wont hurt but having a larger wire than 14 gauge isnt going to help anything either. So if you have 14 gauge wire sitting around dont make a special trip. If you dont then pick up some 10 gauge when you go to the store. It wont hurt.
There are two open terminals. The wire terminal closest to the firewall is the one to hook your power lead to. The one towards the front of the motor is the tachometer terminal.
