Ignition cylinder
levy, have you tried bending a paper clip and inserting it in the holes on either side of the cylinder? You should be able to "trip" the tumblers that hold the cylinder in by doing this. By the way, my '62 did not require a key to turn the ignition switch either when I got it. I've been in several early sixties cars and trucks that were like this. Mine had a particular spot on the ignition that you had to turn the key to to "lock" it. Not sure how yours is...
