If you are subject to california smog checks, I don't know what to tell you. I don't know how hardcore they get about making sure every last thing under your hood is stock.

Now if they aren't going to verify that the carb that originally came on the truck or an exact replacement is on it, then you could bolt on an Edelbrock 1406, tune it to run clean, hook up all the necessary vacuum hoses so everything else works, then hope you pass the tail pipe test. I'm guessing you could just leave the connector for the carb disconnected, not sure if that will throw a check engine light though.

Why the hurry ? Is there something seriously wrong with the carb thats keeping you from driving the truck ?

Even bolting on an Edelbrock 1406 is not so simple. Your stock throttle and kickdown brackets won't work so you will need some kind of aftermarket solution.

The Edelbrock 1406 is a good solution when not subject to emissions laws, but the whole California smog deal keeps me from giving you a good answer.
