My truck was born a 71 with the standard L6 and 3 on the column too, the stock rear end came with 3.73's in this truck. Someone will chime in I am sure with more accurate info.

Also, call it what you want but I always refered to the 3 speed on the column as '3 on the tree' too. It probably is suppose to be standard on the column or something like that.
