I talked to Steve Holmes at Bow tie about putting a 700 behind my BB. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and very nice guy. He said a 700r4 is a good tranny but cannot stand any heat, they burn up and then they die. He said a good tranny cooler is needed but also gotta make sure everything is running right or it'll burn up before the cooler even comes into play. He told me he's done lots of the conversions for our trucks and i even questioned him on another vehicle i had that has a 4l60e (electronic 700r4) and he gave me some good insight on that truck as well.
I know JET is down here in long beach and Bow tie is about equal distance NE where as JET is SE from me. I dont have any experience with JET yet but i'll find out sometime. I'll eventually convert my truck to OD jsut gotta find the money...
I know many people with 700's that blew them up (i've destroyed 3) and others that had em last forever. Steve just told me that if they stay cool and have a few minor mods they can last a long time. IF you buy one from them get a nice built one and it should last i think.
Good luck
Greg
