Nothing truly extraordinary -- they're just newer than yours, and 4wd. Z71 was really just a modest 4wd package that consisted of stickers and skidplates. They are easy to drive and they never (well, rarely) break down
I live in Oklahoma, which is a redneck state too (like NC) and Z-71's are a dime a dozen.
In a few years, when you have your '70 restored to the point that it is too nice to drive everyday, you will want something like this as an everyday driver though.
