Re: do-it-yourself 69-70 inner grille?

I know that LMC has a billet insert for sale. The speed grille idea is interesting. I don't like (personally) the flame designs and such that are being offered and seen on late-model trucks, especially for the '69-70's as in insert.

I would like to see a billet insert that has vertical bars, instead of the horizontal ones, just for kicks. Maybe an egg-crate billet design would mimic the original plastic insert, yet be different. I know the cost of such would be much higher than a straight-bar billet insert. Tube grill insert, anyone? Maybe one done with 1/4-inch stainless bars would be different enough.

I have thought of painting my insert to coordinate it with my wheels and interior....red. Think of seeing a '32 Ford grille with the bars in red and the shell in black, with a thin stainless bead between the bars and the shell. Hey, it's just an idea.
