Here's a comparison...van on left - truck on right. Pic of correct years style neutral safety for an automatic also. Note the positions of the prongs.....they are different on the van neutral safety, thats why the plug did not fit possibly.
Like others say it can be modified and an adapter or something can be made so the neutral safety from a newer van can work also. Look at the height up up from bottom of column on the van compared to the truck tilt also...without lowering the neutral safety on a van it may cause inteference with mounting, as it hits the lower dash as you mount it.
