Well, my new motor has the tall valve covers. This caused problems with alternator clearance. I thought, no big deal, I'll just push it out a little, get a longer belt and be done. Didn't work out that way. Now, my alternator belt is either way too loose or I have to rig something to extend it. Is there a longer top bracket out there? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Also, when it's loose, it seems to cause/make worse some valve/rocker/lifter chatter I sometimes get. Does this make sense? Even sound possible? When I tighten it up, it seems to go away. Any ideas?
