I put the front bracket on the hump, and the back bracket on the floor. I'm more comfortable in there now than I was before, and I'm 6'2". I think making the seat lower would make it worse as far as leg room goes. If your head almost hits the ceiling, keep the back bracket down for the best of both worlds.
