Here is what I have found to work the best without damage to the pump.

After you get it all installed and ready to start, fill the resevior to the full mark. Start the engine for 2-5 seconds, check/fill the level again. Start and let run for 10 seconds or so(if you hear the pump whine, shut it off) refill the fluid.
At this point you should have most of the air out, now crank the wheels side to side a few times to clear the lines then recheck the level once more (engine off of course)

Keep in mind, most remanufactures require you to flush the system before installing the new pump. Remove all fluid.
