OP:
I would go with a 4 wheel frame and chop it up while keeping the original 2 wheeler in the back 40 just in case you need it later (for another project or to put back to original). The only other obstacle I can think of is how do you feel about cutting the original floor? To take advantage of a step notch I believe you would have to clearance the rear floor pan (going off of gringoloco's thread) to allow the axle to come up.

And I see somebody has an LS1 in their rig.
