It can be done... I did it on a 71 C30 frame and helped on a 81.

Mount the 4wd spring hangers and rad support brackets in place of the 2wd ones. Then place your shackle hanger in the rear and drill for the mounting holes and the shackle placement. All the holes for the cross members are there.

Get rid of the 2wd engine/suspension cross member and use the 4wd one. Bolt holes are there.

BTW, this was easier than swapping the body, which I've also done.

The only drilling he would have to do is for the front spring's shackle hanger, which should be right where the frame bulges out for the ebrake cables.

I have a couple of shackle hangers, if he doesn't want to play with rivets.
