brad, the serp belt takes less power to run, and with the preset belt tension given by the tensoner (as opposed to the tension put on by you with a long screwdriver when tightening the alt bolts) bearing lifespan in the alt/water pump/steering pump will last virtually forever.
Some thinks it looks better too, but I think the V belt set up is less cluttered looking myself.
