I understand where your coming from but they didn't have a stock A/C so anything you would need for the inside would be from some one like Vintage air. I've seen some very cobbled A/C installs from early 70's trucks into a 55-59. They didn't look or work very well.

You can specify a GM compressor with the kit. It would take a phone call but then you would get what you want. As for knowing how it works just pick up a Auto A/C book from haynes or chilton at your part store. Its not a complicated system.
