Did not intend to hijack this thread but I figured we are talking tach's so it would be ok. The install of mine was really simple. It's a vdo "vision series" gauge, number 333155. It is programable for 4, 6 or 8 cylinders.
I took a hole saw and cut the plastic lens out, cut the front tin plate and the back tin plate. Then assembled it all and cut the printed circuit board where I needed to. The gauge mounts so simple right to the front bezel with a plastic screw on ring. As for wiring it, you need power, ground and the signal connections along with the dash light connections. I am going to tap off the ground screw for all the grounds, off the temperature gauge feed screw for power (need to figure out which side) and run a lead from my hei dist. for the signal. You can also use a signal from a alternator lead. The lights I will just tap into the wire for the dash lights on the harness.
