ok, figured it out

on my truck there is a dark green wire from the headlight switch that hooks to one panel fuse spade and the gray goes on the other. the dark green is the feed for the panel lights. I had it hooked up correctly, but the varistor is not making good contact so after playing with it some my dash lights work
.....just don't turn the dimmer!!
