The + is supplied 12V the - is just a ground. You can use the coil if you like, but I would suggest going to your local parts store and buying a cheap 12v tester. Turn the key to the 'ON' position and get under your dash where the fuse box is. Clamp the black wire of the tester to some solid steel (like the bracket that hold the bottom of the dash, steering column, anywhere) and press the tip of the tester to each terminal until you find one that lights it up. Make sure that it does not light up when the key is in the 'OFF' position. If the terminal you want to use is being used by something else, go to your parts store and splice a wire into it with a connecter like this:

and run it to the choke.
There are many ways to get 12V where you want it, but I think this is the easiest. Dont get carried away though, you can make your wiring under your dash a jumbled up mess if you do this too often.
