doing what i do for a living ((army =-) )) i have experienced a ton of unpleasent situations with poorly maintained trucks.
now the closest i have gotten with a pintle style trailer, to tow on a non pintled truck is a lot of chain well wrapped around the neck and trailer hitch and other parts. . .
but unfortunatley there is no way to stop the trailer when you do that. it will swing forward and hit your truck every time you try to stop..
now if you had a interchangeable hitch you could rent a pintle attachment for it. . .
but if you know anyone who has an old MV (military vehicle) everyone of them has a pintls it's been the standard since like WWI....
but other then that, trying to "rig something" for your truck is more dangerous and costly then just getting the proper hitch.
