Pull the cap and a pull a vacuum on the advance canister, it should move the plate inside dist, and hold it as long as the vacuum is held. If it doesn't move or moves and then goes back the diaphram may be shot. I like to run more than 8 degrees advanced, but I really don't own a bone stock 350, did you try to advance the initial??
