Is it a regular 12 bolt?
If so it should handle any abuse a 350 can dish out.
As for rebuilding get a set of gears, a quality posi unit, ( i bought an Eaton) and a master rebuild kit and put it together or pay someone to set the gears up for you.
You should be able to buy all that and pay for setup for around $800 to $1000.
Check the axel bearings while you are there also.
