i know it sounds crazy, but i'd much rather mess with the transfer case and mounting an axle, than modifying anything on the bed and winch set up. its all set up for a passanger side PTO and all the controls work so im afraid to touch them

How many miles on the 208? GM put those t-cases in 1 and1/4 ton trucks (CUCV), so you should be ok, theoretically. I do know people blowing them out. So, I ask if you're going to replace the chain, as it stretched with allot of miles and will wear the bottom of the case, causing it to crack eventually.
One of the reasons I went with a 203/205 doubler was to have a PTO option on both sides
