The metal debris could be from a clip that holds a shaft in place on the shifter part of the cover. If this shaft decides to slide out the tranny will only have granny low & 2nd. You won't be able to get any gear to the right side. ( 3, 4 & R ) If it slides out you'll have to drain the grease & go in thru the pto cover to slide that shaft back in so you can get the cover off. As you already know, to get the cover off it has to be half way into reverse. I finally welded the clip on. ......Zoomy/Pappy
