Re: Custom glove box door project

Thanks.

First I must confess - Marisa is my friend in the broadest definition of the word. :-) We did live in the same town when I was in LA, and I was a fan before she hit it big, but I'm not exactly on her speed dial.

She is, by all accounts and interactions as nice as she is lovely. She autographs "official" merchandise (that's an authenticity hologram in the lower right of the picture) via her website and usually has an auction or two running on eBay of posters or magazine copies which she will personalize for you. She donates the proceeds of these things to charity, which I think is pretty cool.

As for the "how to" I took more pictures while doing this so I will put something together and make it available.

The short version is this:

- I took a repro woodgrain sticker and applied it to the back of the autographed poster (after much checking and measuring). Trick is not to get any bubbles under the sticker.

- Then I carefully cut along the outline of the woodgrain sticker.

- Then I used 3M spray adhesive on the glove box door and the woodgrain side of the sticker.

- Then (while holding my breath) I carefully applied it to the glove box door being careful to get it placed properly and not have any bubbles under it.

I didn't cut out the hole that was in the woodgrain sticker for the glove box latch; I made small slits and mounted the latch. Fitting the picture in that area was the trickiest bit, but I have no major wrinkles (just some small ones).

I've since outlined the image with a blue pinstripe, this will match my interior and help seal the edge as well. But I'm not thoroughly happy with that yet so maybe it was unnecessary.
