it is absolutely a very bad idea to drive with your bags defalted. If your suspension bottoms out on the bag and your bags don't have an internal bumpstop ( some do, most don't) driving with them bottomed out drastically reduces the bags life. The cool thing with a lot of the synthetic bumpstops is they can be progressive to start soft and then get firmer as they compress providing a less jarring end of travel experience.
