I will try to provide a little more detail. I have a HEI dist now but the mech advance weights have worn the cam surfaces to a point where the mech advance does not function properly.
The cam surfaces I am talking about are at the top of the drive shaft where the rotor screws on. If you take the rotor off you should see two springs with weighted arms that slide against a cam or shaped steel part.
If everything is proper the weights side surfaces should be square to the lage sides and where they contact the cam that surface should also be square to the sides.
On mine the weights had enough slop in the bushings that they wore the cam surfaces at an angle. Take a look under the rotor and hopefuly this makes some sense.
