Please know that I'm not dismissing your concerns.
But..... If the BJ shaft is seated into the spindles properly, adding washers would be no different than having a 'taller' castle-nut. If your castle nut was slightly taller, you would never have given the spindles a second thought. Your not compromising anything thats structural. It's no different than needing more shims than normal to align a lowered truck vs. what a stock height truck would require.
