Yeap, alot of the 81-up trucks and some SW6 HO 305 Firebirds, etc used the EST system, had electonically advanced distributor, knock sensor, etc.
You can run the 72 carb and dizzy on the engine when it goes in the 86, you dont have to use the plugs for the 86 carb or the extra plug for the '86 dizzy, engine wil still run, starting circuit is same.
And use the 86 alternator, it will swap on, as will all of the accesory brackets and pulleys.
Does the 72 engine stil have the original passenger side alternator set up(if is actually a 72 truck engine) ?
Make sure both engines have the 8" diameter torsional dampner(balancer), if not then swap the '86 balancer onto the '72 engine.
Even so, the 86 may not even have the EST sytem in it.
