You just picked two of my favorite engines. The 383 cause A: I have one and B: are very easy to make! The 427 cause A: biggest bore/shrotest stroke combo big block avalible and B: Nothing like a big block under the hood!

If your on any kind of a budget, go with the 383. They can make impressive power fairly cheaply. 400hp isent even hard anymore. If you want absolute gobs of power, go for the 427. If you want to really strain your bank account, and make almost as much power as the BB427, then make a 427SB. Just remember heads to support 427BB are out there, and stock. Heads to support 427SB are also out there, and $1400+ a set minimum.
