A v6 transmission definately won't hold up to a V8 for any lenght of time. The 2.8 tranny won't work, and while the 4.3 one will, it will break if you run it hard. If you want a cheaper four speed, look for a super T-10 or Muncie M-21 out of a late 70s early 80s Camaro. There are still quite a few around, they are reasonable to rebuild, and are plenty strong for a mild V8 S-10. A better choice if you wanted overdrive is the T-5 from a mid 80s-early 90s Camaro/Firebird, but they aren't quite as strong and probably more money. A good clutch setup is the hydraulic setup from a 4.3 S10. It's all bolt in.
