Bad decision? I disagree. I cut mine, took a full coil off and lowered it 2 1/2 inches up front. I have lowered all years of Chevy trucks, from an 83 with drop spindles to a 90 with 3 inch drop tubular A-arms to many 67-72 chevy trucks. Yes cutting a coil affects the front end geometry but not enough to cause problems IMO. Mine rides great, was aligned by a professional and the tires wear evenly.
I say yes there are better ways to achieve a front drop than cutting a coil, but if your funds are limited I say go for the cut. I would go 1/2 a coil at a time in case your drop is too extreme for you.
