Re: At last! Proof that the Golden Cameo SS actually existed!
Those of us who are in the "less than 10%" age group will remember that when the truck body style changed for '67, the real emphasis was on the new "Coke Bottle" shaped Camaro, and later the Firebird. Pony Cars were THE hot ticket. These trucks were just....trucks. Yeah, the car show version with the SS styling was, and still is, neat.
But at the time of introduction, you can bet that the bulk of the car mags, including the other mags like Popular Mechanics, Mechanics Illustrated and Popular Science, were all going after readership with their articles on the new GM pony car...the Camaro. Auto shows have always been known for their one-off vehicles and the SS truck was just another one of those vehicles. It is amazing that the aftermarket has never seen fit to generate anything related to re-creating an SS version of the truck. It's a lot easier to do with the '69-72 grille, but the sloping hood of the '67-8 is better suited to the styling.
We just were not that stoked by the new body style on these trucks, having become jaded by the squared stying that was the industry prior to this change.
